Family happens to be the first and continues to be the immediate social setting for any individual. Considering the Bio-Psycho-Social mode of the mental health, family becomes crucial in consideration of the Social or Environmental factors that play a role in individual’s mental health. Families in India (and some eastern countries) have been of a great importance, and the concept of collectivism reflecting in them. Due to rapid socio cultural changes especially industrialization and technology, the concept of family, of other things, has also undergone extreme changes.These changes bring with them some typical problems which can potentially affect the wellness of the family members. It is important to study these changes and the vulnerabilities they create so as to assess the kinds of challenges that need to be overcome through proactive strategies in the field of mental health care.
